About Me

Why I Do What I Do

I can remember it like it was just yesterday. I was sitting in my 12th-grade health class. The teacher was doing a course on genetics and inherited diseases. He walked around the classroom, asking each student about any disorders in their family. When he approached me, I told him my father was in the hospital dying of cancer and that my mother and my father’s mother were both type 2 diabetics. And with that, my teacher instantly proclaimed that since Diabetes was on both sides of my family and generations, I too would get type 2 Diabetes. I could feel the rage rising within me. I thought to myself, “How dare he! How dare he decide what my future state of health will be. I am not going to get cancer, and I am not going to become diabetic! I am going to live a life of health, not disease.” Looking back, I realize that at that moment, I had intended to choose health over disease and live that intention for a lifetime.
We can all make the choice for health, yet most of us don’t understand that health and disease are conscious or unconscious choices we make. Then we live our lifestyle by that choice. I watched my parents live an unhealthy lifestyle and lose them too early. My biggest regret is that my father never lived long enough to see me grow out of my “challenging” teen years and become a mature, well-adjusted, and happy adult. I don’t want you or your children to have that same regret. That is why I do what I do, and why I'm here to help you.
